I’m Harry Chapman and Booper is a 100 pounds of the most gentle warrior dog in the world! We’d like to say Hello and Welcome to The Adventures of Booper and Harry! All of our mysteries have taught us to stand by two principles above all else: Triumph Over Tragedy and Do The Right Thing!
Our First Mystery!
In the first of our many mysteries, I describe how I rescued Booper from hideous abuse by a crazed, alcoholic lunatic. He tried to kill us, but my incredibly courageous soccer team, the Redhawks–Rory, Magda, Peter, Jorge, Keysha and Bu–and my best friend Glenda–saved us in a wild adventure.
Since then, we’ve experienced many more mysteries that even we don’t believe happened. But they did!

I have known and been friends with the author for some time, and although mentioned in the acknowledgements, I can’t honestly recall any way I might have contributed to this work other than support and friendship. The book was gifted to me, and I was interested, as grandfather to a tween, and retired psychotherapist, to see 1) how appropriate, 2) how constructive, and 3) how entertaining this would be.
The book held my interest throughout. I have encountered kids like Harry in my practice, and found her character realistic. There is trouble in the book, grown-up real life trouble, (divorce, mental illness, addiction, sociopathy) so tweens or immature protected teens might find this material too emotionally challenging.
On the other hand, there are important character-building life lessons about friendship, concern for others, animal protection, the challenges of addiction.
I might follow up with my granddaughter’s review once she has the opportunity to read it.

Format: Paperback
Although this book was written for young readers, as an adult and an avid reader, I was drawn to the cover, the title, and the story line.
I was pleased to find that the author had an amazing insight into what it would be like to be a young twelve year old girl living through a divorce, moving to a lower class neighbor hood, and trying to make new friends. The leading characters are all well developed, and well rounded. The storyline drew me in in such a way that I found it hard to put the book down.
This book is a compelling and insightful read for all ages!
